Quilt of the day! Very Modern!!

How about an ultra modern quilt today?  Brandy mixed brights with some grays and black and white mix to create this great quilt!  Love the design of the over sized blocks.

Anne Bright design Champagne was just perfect to finish off this quilt.

It's all about colors today! Quilt of the day

Our quilt today is another great quilt from Brandy!   I LOVE the colorfulness of this great little quilt and matching it with the gray puts a modern spin on this simple design.

Brandy wanted a simple circular quilting design so we went for the Bubbles design from Anne Bright.  The contrast of the circles and squares are perfect!

Love the Orange!! Quilt of the day....

This stunning quilt came my way from Brandy in NC.    I am not an orange kinda gal, but this quilt is so beautiful who can't say no to orange?

As always Brandy delivers the most perfect piecing job ever!!  Every longarm quilters dream job!

Love, love, love the white!!!

If  you click on the picture above you can see where the inspiration for the quilting design came from.  Almost duplicated the flower in the print of the fabric.
I used Anne's Gillmore design and it was more than perfect for this quilt!
Thanks Anne!!

Okay, that's it for today,

Quilt of the day...animal tracks!

LOVE animal tracks!!  I've used this design on many, many quilts and love the way it brings to life the little animals on the fabrics.  This colorful baby quilt was done by Jane C in NH, I've got another warm and cuddly quilt to show of hers, so stay tuned!

Love this little animal print, so bright and colorful!

I probably should have cropped this one, but couldn't resist adding my comments.  Because the kid is holding the quilt so crooked it would have cropped horribly, so I add comment and keep on rolling!!

Here's a snippet of the back of the quilt.   Jane used some solids and the center had some more of those adorable little animals, the quilting really stands out on the solid fabrics, how fun!!

that's it for today, off to fix a bit of dinner.  On tonight's menu salad, homemade bread and butternut fettuccine.

How about those 5" squares?

This is one of my quilts, I seem to be into scrappy these days.  I've got two more scrappy quilts in the works.  I belong to a group and we did 5" square swaps.  From the looks of it, there were a lot of gals during those yellow months!  I wanted a solid and had some Kona black on hand (use what you've got first, right?) so Kona black it was.

I am a huge Anne Bright and this design is called Beaded.  It's one of my favorites right now.  She had three killer designs come out in December 2013 and I LOVE them all!

So how about this photo grouping?  Created it in Picasa 3 today.  Not sure if I'm liking it or not, thinking about using it for the Pinterest  pins.  What do you think?

Quilt of the Day - For you modern gals....

How cool is this one?!  This is another quilt from Alex and it is fabulous!!  The solid is more gray than the photo shows, I wish I had taken more time to work with the lighting on this one!  The solid really shows off the design of the quilt and creates a wonderful complimentary accent for the prints that Alex used.

This photo shows the backing and a closeup of the quilting.  She selected a feather design, but again it really has a modern, less heavy feel to the design.

Perfect, perfect, perfect, it all works to create a beautiful quilt!  Can't wait to see Alex's next one!!

Quilt of the Day

Don't  you just love I Spy quilts???  I do!!  They are scrappy, but a fun scrappy.  Since they are made for children they tend to have bright and cherry fabrics.

This is the last of Kelly's quilts from (all together now...)  I Have a Notion.  We all know and LOVE that crazy gal!  Click on the photo and check out all of the cute fabrics that Kelly used in this quilt.

We wanted to do some fun quilting on this quilt and we went with Sea Turtles for Jade.  It's yet another fantastic design from the very talented Anne Bright.

Well, that's it for today,

Allergies & Morphing into Spouse

I love animals, I grew up with dogs.  But in recent years I have become extremely sensitive to pet hair.  Jeff (the hubs) has always had severe allergies to everything!!  I had no idea what sinus headaches, sinus infections and general sinus misery was all about for the first few years of our marriage.  Then when you throw kids into the mix you get those with and those without allergies.  Having four children, we pretty much ended up with two with allergies and two without.

Having two kiddo’s with severe allergies (blame Dad) we have not had pets in our household.  We LOVE pets, but they can’t live at our house without having red eyed, sneezy, wheezy, congested, coughing, hacking humans.  Both old (Dad) and young were affected by the animal presence.  I could always tell when the kids came home from a friend’s house who had a well-loved pet.  I’d see all of the signs listed above and it would take a couple of days to get the kid back to breathing normal.

We’ve now been married 27 years and I am convinced that I am going through a morphing process as I sleep with the hubs at night.  All of his not so wonderful attributes and habits I am now seeing in my daily routine and life and now I have allergies!  Not just allergies, but those sinus things that can make a person down right miserable!!

I finished a quilt yesterday that now has me sneezing, hacking and miserable.  I knew there was pet hair on it, but since the quilt was from out of state and came with others that did not have pet hair I sucked it up and loaded it.  Now there is a certain amount of touching, shaking, arranging that goes on while a quilt is on the frame and the general vibration of the quilt top shaking as the machine does it’s work.  All of this sends the pet hair and dander into the room and I am never more than 3 feet away from the machine at any time while it’s running.

I know a huge percentage of my customers have pets.  I've seen them on facebook, on their blogs or in their homes.  I can deal with the majority of the quilt tops that come my way without any problems.  But every now and then it seems I get a top that I know will make me wish I had no idea about allergies and those sinus thingies.  I’m still snorting, sniffling, and rubbing my nose and eyes today.  I’ll need to do a good vacuuming of my room to attempt to pick up remnants of yesterday’s work.

I feel like I’m in the minority when it comes to having pets and dealing with the allergy thing.  And I hate it!   I wish I could bury my face in some sweet little puppy fur without suffering, but I can’t.  I’m posting this today and plan on placing this under a tab on my blog at some point.

Happy New Year!!!!

WHAT?!?!?!   Yep, a little late to the party, that's me.  But the kids just left yesterday and our holiday season is officially over.  Back into the routine of life.  It's a good thing.

New Year's Resolution....chop up those scraps and get rid of the one's I just will not use!!  Honestly, I've been working on this for a while and I've found if you let it go a little at a time it's much easier, but it has lifted pounds off of my shoulders.  Less that I am sifting through, stepping over and storing!!  I'm also going to try to just buy what I *need* to finish things.  We'll see....on to the photo's!

In November I hosted the most fun retreat!!!  We had a blast, we had a small number which allowed everyone the opportunity to really get to know each other.  There were nighttime antics that I hope to share in the days to come.  BUT!!  Here's a table runner that we all made that I cut using my Big Shot Pro.  I supplied all of the fabric (Judi K bailed me out with the star, thanks Judi!!) and cut these up in no time at all.  LOVE the fact that I can stack and cut!  Original table runner design goes to:  Janssen Designs.

So I cleaned out my mess of a tub, pressed and stacked and in the process of cutting and sorting...here's one stack.....

Here's one of the pressing and sorting piles, what a mess.....

Here are some lovely 2" blocks that will go into a top that I've got in the works....and I really needed some more 2" squares, which is what prompted this little project...

This is what I love the most about the snow!!  I can see the traces of nighttime visitors.

Somebody (thing) was tromping through the yard last night.

LOVE the path and prints it left....

Driveway is a mess, solid sheet of ice!

That's it for now!
